• National Symphony Orchestra
  Generally recognized as one of today's finest orchestras, the National Symphony Orchestra is the orchestra of the capital of the United States, and regularly participates in events of national and international importance.
  
• Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC U.S.A.
  on the Metro blue line (Smithsonian) One of the best museums on the mall. Great IMAX movies. Free.
  
• National Gallery of Art on the Metro yellow or green lines (Archives/Navy Memorial) Two wonderful building full of art from everywhere. Check out the underground tunnel connecting the buildings. Free. Houses one of the finest collections in the world illustrating major achievements in painting, sculpture, and graphic arts from the Middle Ages to the present.
  
• National Geographic Society on the Metro red line (Farragut North) Great place to kill a couple of hours exploring. You get to take pictures that appear as the cover of the National Georgraphic Magazine. Free.
  
• National Museum of African Art on the Metro blue line (Smithsonian) Nice building, and the exhibits are really interesting: there's a lot of great history to learn. It's connected via an underground passageway to National Museum of Asian Art (Sackler Gallery) on the Metro blue line (Smithsonian) Entrances to both are located near the Freer Gallery. (Free.)
  Don't miss the "Castle" -- the original Smithsonian Building.
• Old Post Office Pennsylvania Ave. on Metro red/blue/orange lines (Metro Centre) Great place to hang out. Stores, food, live music and plenty of atmosphere. The Old Post Office is one of the last remaining examples of Richardsonian Romanesque Architecture in Washington, D.C. Dominant park feature is the spectacular view from the 270-foot tower observation level, which is one of the best of the nation's capital. The Old Post Office Tower is also home to the bells of the U.S. Congress. The Old Post Office is considered by many visitors as Washington's "hidden treasure."
  
• Shenandoah National Park in VA Absolutely beautiful park in which one can go hiking and enjoy nature. Skyline Drive is a spectacular, must-see crawl-along as the leaves turn color.

  Union Station on the Metro red line Exquisite Beaux Arts restoration, he movie theatre complex is decent, the food is ok, and there are lots of shops and you can even catch a train to points north or south or west.
  
• Vietnam Veteran's Memorial on the Mall This monument is incredible. Much bigger than you might expect and brilliantly engineered.
  
• Washington Monument on the Metro blue line (Smithsonian) Great view of the city if you go to the top via elevator or steps. 555 feet. Free.

  Metrochek is a farecard voucher that employers can provide to their employees as a transit commuter benefit. The benefit can be used to cover the cost of commuting to work on public transit or certain qualifying vanpools. The monthly Metrochek benefit can be any amount the employer chooses to provide, although a maximum of $65 per month is allowable tax-free or pre-tax to employees. The Metrochek transit benefit is treated just like many other commonly available fringe benefits such as employer-provided health insurance.
